Frequently Asked Questions

What is your availability?

Specific appointment times will be determined on a case-by-case basis; in general, my availability is as follows:

- Monday: 9am - 8pm

- Tuesday: 9am - 6pm-- Including in-person

- Wednesday: 9am - 8pm-- Including in-person

- Thursday: 9am - 6pm

- Friday: 9am - 6pm-- Including in-person

What is the initial intake like?

Prior to the first appointment, prospective patients will contact the Weill Cornell Psychiatry Specialty Center at 646-962-2820 where you will discuss the logistics of enrolling in the clinic, and the general reasons you are seeking treatment. Afterward, I will reach out to schedule a brief phone consultation in which we will schedule the initial 60 minute session and follow-up 45-minute session that comprise the intake evaluation. The purpose of these sessions is to get a sense of your history and what is leading you to seek treatment now, and to get a sense of fit. At the end of the second evaluation session, we will discuss initial impressions and treatment recommendations. The intake serves as a starting point for an ongoing collaborative relationship.

Do you see patients for psychotherapy, medications, or both?

The factors that lead one to seek treatment are complex, and involve biological, social, and psychological contributions. As such, I see patients for both psychotherapy and psychopharmacology, often in conjunction. I see psychotherapy as my main framework for understanding and treating patients, and given my expertise as a psychiatrist, I am also comfortable prescribing medications. I treat them as an important tool for augmenting our work in psychotherapy, when indicated. I will in some cases see patients less frequently (once per month) with a greater focus on medications, though this is primarily for patients who are already in psychotherapy elsewhere.

What languages do you offer treatment in?

I offer treatment in both English and Spanish.

What should I ask my insurance company?

Prior to our first intake session, I would strongly recommend speaking directly with your insurance company to determine eligibility for out-of-network benefits. Some questions to consider asking include:

- What are my out-of-network health benefits?

- Is there a deductible? How much is it?

- Once the deductible is met, what percentage of each visit will be covered? Is there a limit?

- What is my out-of-network out-of-pocket maximum?

- Is there a difference in coverage for telepsychiatry visits?

What information should I provide my insurance company about you?

- My practice Zip Code is 10065.

- My NPI number is 1952758609.

- Here are the CPT codes I use for treatment:

  • Intake evaluation: 90792

  • Follow-up visits: 99213 or 99214 (depending on level of service) + 90836

  • Monthly medication visits: 99214 + 90836

  • Please note for video sessions a -95 modifier would be added to each code (e.g., "99213-95 + 90836-95").

What is your cancellation policy?

Patients will be charged full fee for no-shows or cancellations with less than 24 hours notice. Fees will be waived for cancellations made 2 weeks in advance. Cancellations with less than 2 weeks notice will result in a half-fee charge unless we are able to reschedule the appointment or if I am able to schedule another patient for your appointment time.
